I need to present to about 20-30 psychiatrists and residents in a few months. The topic can be anything but I have no idea. I'm at resident level, about mid-way through. I lean more towards biological/pharmaceutical psych. I don't have any recent cases that are remotely interesting. I do have a lot of time to prepare though.

Can anyone think of a presentation topic that's both interesting and informative?

I had thought of something like a review of the toxicity of medications in overdose, geared toward a run-down on what dispensing frequency should be in patients groups at risk of self harm. I had thought of this after see a lot of people giving weekly SSRI scripts (I've also seen daily fluoxetine dispensing recently, but I think that was a PCP/GP), then others giving weeks of MAOI to a patient who still has a bunch of Effexor lying around at home (etc.). But I can't really think of a way for this to not be incredibly boring.

Medication effects that can cause AMS presentations, or cause vague attention/memory complaints in older population patients. This is one of my biggest areas of education to referring providers.

I think you can do a lot on circadian rhythms, chronotherapy, light hygeine, and mental illness

Check out psycheducation.org, Dr. Phelps' site is a good start for some stuff that I know not every doc (or psych) has heard before on the topics
