so i have yet to receive an acceptance..i am wait listed at two schools: nyu and nova. however, i was thinking i should go ahead and send in my application for grad schools in case i do not hear back from either. i figured if i do go on to get my masters, then i should try to get it in oral biology since i hope to enroll into dental school after i'm done. my question for you guys is, does anybody know of any schools offering M.S. Oral Biology based on a 1 year curriculum?

and also, do you think this is a good idea? i think the weaknesses with my application were science gpa, dat, and no research. would it be better to take a year to improve in these categories instead of pursuing a masters?

thanks in advance.

If you want to be a dentist, I would take more science classes and raise your GPA and DAT. I didn't get into dental school on my first try, but I did on my second. I think they just probably want more proof that you're a strong student and won't drop out.

True that, true that, first of all I really think that you will get in maybe after may first where multiple depositers have to make their decisions.
About one year program, you wnat to look for M.A , I doubt if you can get an M.S in a year. Also, dental school need to make sure you are committed ; AT SOME CASES ( like my cousin ) they may think you've moved on and want to obtain M.S or Phd.

Good Luck

What were your strengths? You listed all the things that most adcom are looking for in a candidate as weaknesses. Yes, I would suggest that you improved on them: take science classes to raise your GPA and retake the dat.

i don't know about the masters, but my opinion is GPA/DAT are overrated. I don't know what your stats are but i had a 3.5/3.6 and a 21 DAT and i'm in the same situation you are in. You got 2 interviews with your current stats. Just go work and save up money for next cycle. Maybe throw in some unique aka 3rd world volunteer trips, become a hippy, learn to play/sing kumbaya on a guitar, and that way they'll remember you next time for sure.😎

I was in the same boat last year too. They told me that my science gpa was good but not great, I had no research, my DAT was good but not great. For my year I tried to do something different that made me stand out as an applicant and I got in this year! I took a manager position and learned more about business, which they really liked. I also lived in Asia for 5 months, which they also liked. I stayed involved with health care by volunteering at a hospital too. I think it is good to beef up stats, but I think it might be even better to show them a different side of you and show that you are more than just numbers!
