Can anyone provide additional information about preventive medicine? Is this the same thing as occupational medicine? What type of residency is required for this speciality? Any insight about this field is greatly appreciated.

I think it's just a component of the primary care specialties. (ie: blood pressure screening, vaccinations, mammograms etc....). I don't think it is its own specialty. On a larger scale it might fall under the bailiwick of public health (which is usually a master's degree - MPH)

Actually, there are preventative medicine residencies. These residenies do fall under the same category of occupational medicine residencies. A lot of preventative medicine residencies will allow you to earn an MPH during residency (you will get paid during your MPH time). People who specialize in preventative medicine go into occupational medicine, health policy, epidemiology, etc. That's the extent of my knowledge on the subject.
