Hey guys!

I just took the MCAT a few days ago, and it was my first time. I have already submitted my AMCAS, and have been receiving secondaries.

How confident were those of you that took last August's MCAT and were applying at that time about your scores? Did you go ahead and send in all your secondaries before the scores were released? Or did you wait, and did that put you behind?

How bad does it look to withdraw your application?

I just don't want to send in the secondaries, spend all that money, and have my scores come out poorly. I'm just a bit confused about what I should do....

Thanks in advance! 🙂

if you can afford it, send them in!!! late applications really hurt you, and yours will already be late due to the august mcat even if you turn in your secondaries now.
i was not at all confident of my score but turned them in anyway. if i hadn't, who knows where i would have ended up this year! i certainly would not have had 9 interviews.
wait only if you don't care too much where you end up, really can't afford to waste the secondary money, or don't mind taking a year off if your scores are low.

I went ahead and sent them in, because, as an Aug. MCATer one is at somewhat of a disadvantage time-wise, and I wanted to have my files as complete as possible so adcoms could review them the minute my scores hit the files (which takes longer than you would think, btw).
I didn't wait, and still was somewhat behind (ended up on 6 waitlists, but had acceptances too, so not that behind).

I had studied full time for 2 months prior to the test, had been hitting my goals on practice tests, so I was -- I don't know if I'd say confident, but cautiously optimistic anyway.

If you've already named all your schools on your AMCAS app, I think you're considered to have applied once to that school (for purposes of reapplying later). Withdrawing an application is not a big deal. If I were you, I'd go for it and try to knock their socks off on those secondaries. Best of luck to you! 🙂

I also just went ahead and sent them in. I think applying with the August MCAT you either have to trust in yourself and go for it - or just wait till next year. My personal perception is that doing it half way is even more likely to waste your money as a lower score at the top of the pile is more likely to get in than a marginally better score at the bottom of their pile.

I agree with tbw, send as many in as you can afford as early as you can. If you choose to withdraw later, you can deal with that later, likely your MCAT score will be fine and you'll be very glad that you're getting interviews earlier rather than later. August mcat delays you enough, get everything in ASAP and if you choose to withdraw and re-take later, you just put that on your application, i really don't think that would even hurt you all taht much in the long run.
good luck
