Hi, All

Ok, so I got this from University of Chicago today:

"Your application has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions and has been placed on hold for a second review after a greater number of candidates have been screened. The date of this second review cannot be stated with certainty. You will be notified by February 15 if you are to be invited for interviews.

You should arrange for copies of your fall quarter or semester grades to be sent to the Office of Admissions. We would be happy to receive any additional materials you might wish to submit as well: honors, awards, special recognition, abstracts or other publications, etc."

Here are my questions and I'd be grateful for any meaningful answers:

1. What does the number applicants screened have to do with me? Are they basically saying that they are waiting for better quality applicants than me to come along?

2. How crucial are my fall semester grades going to be in getting me an interview? I don't know what they are yet and while I don't think I bomed anything, I definitely did not get a 4.0 as in previous years.

3. How interested is Pritzker in applicants they put on hold? Is this message I got basically a precursor of a pre-interview rejection?

Thanks for the input.

Hey,

I wouldn't complain too much. I was rejected by Chicago Monday which came as a huge surprise. I thought I could at least get an interview there since my stats are well above their averages.

To answer your questions:
Basically they are interested in you, but not dying to meet you. They want to see your grades possibly because you are taking a course now that they want to see how you do in? Just a hunch. I may be way off. Anyhow, good luck

Hey man,

I'm in the same limbo as you on hold at Pritzker. According to their website, they usually outright interview about 400 applicants, and then hold about 200. Out of the 200 apps on hold, they end up interviewing about 50 of them. Being on hold means they definitely like you, but they haven't made up their mind about offereing an interview yet.

I don't know how imprtant fall grades are. Like you, my grades this semester are not going to be nearly as good as the ones I've gotten in my past.

Best of luck,

TF

I was put on hold too. What the hell is the point of putting applicants on "hold." It's such bullsh*t. Do they honestly think that I would pay $600 to fly out there and interview now? Putting me on hold is a polite way of saying that I'm good, but not as good as the vast majority of interviewees thus far. In other words, my chances of gaining admission are quite low--much lower than the 400 interviewees who get an interview offer right off the bat. There's no freakin way I would interview there now. Huge waste of my money and my time. Besides, I've already gained admission to a top-ten med school. Pritzker can kiss my ass.

U of Chicago interview so few a year.... i think even getting a hold is pretty decent.
