I feel you, Chessknt, I'm in a very similar situation where parents (or in my case, parent) can't help out.
I know this sounds controversial, but have you considered the military? they fund all 4-years of med school, but they require a certain number of years of medical service in return. The Army, Air Force, and Navy (and I think the Marines) all have their own programs with different requirements.
Also, The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) has a similar program for those who are willing to work in underserved areas. You'd have to choose a specialty that would be helpful for that area. (i.e. primary care, OB/GYN, psychiatry). However, no military service, so that's another option.
Also, go here:
http://www.aamc.org/students/financing/md2/phase2/start.htm
It's the AAMC section on finding particular sources of funding for med schools. there is a link to a pdf (
Sources of Funding During Medical School) that has a 15-page long list places to look for funding. (including private sources)
Now, Chessknt, I know this situation can be very stressful (I'm in it right now), but finding the right sources will require a lot of time and frustrating effort. I'm shaking just thinking about it. Also, keep in mind that you will not need parental info for the FAFSA since you're applying for grad programs!
😀 I'm excited about that.
