How long would it take to set up a private practice after residency, to get a good patient base, etc..........

how much can you expect to make in your first year of private practice, going solo?

what do you guys want to do in the future as fp's? private practice or join a group?

I would like to do solo private practice. Possibly after doing some locum tenens (New Zealand?, Alaska, who knows?) or underserved for a couple years.

I am unsure of the feasibility of doing solo private right away. I suppose it might be possible if I could do enough part time/ moon lighting at some facility.

for my business plan I wouldn't have to see anywhere near 40 people a day....so maybe building up pt's would not be too bad.

blue dog, can we get your insight into this with your experience..............i think we would all want some real-world input...........thanks........

Wazzup Dogg!

okay, I had a chance to read these. I recognize them now and recall reading them last year.

Do you feel they are dated being from early 2000's? Should most of the things mentioned still work? or will it not work as well with some of the recent changes/ proposed changes?

These links were actually the Ideas that got me excited about FM. The whole reason I went into medicine I found in this model. What makes me happiest is Prevention...this model would allow me time with pt's, hopefully. That is where the excitement came from

Some people have criticized some of the primary care initiatives that have been proposed (e.g., Patient Centered Medical Home) for being anti-solo practice. I'm not sure that's true. In fact, I know of at least one solo FP who has earned PCMH certification (not the Village Doctor, FWIW).

I wonder why they would criticize as anti-solo? maybe I missed something...
