Hi guys,

I posted this thread in the pre-dental section as well but I didnt get much response from them:

----------
If a person is going through their undergrads, and DAT and stuff and doesnt have permanent residency or citizenship (but is in the process of becoming a permanent resident) --

do private dental schools accept such students? or do they reject them like the other state schools?

Specifically speaking, how are private schools like Columbia, NYU?

In general, private schools accept people from anywhere but if it's a non-English country you will need a TOEFL. Your undergrad courses and grades also need to translate to US equivalent.

I'm not so sure about other countries, but there are lots of Canadians in US private dental schools including NYU and Columbia.

What about a person who went to high school here and is almos done with his college in USA. However, he was always on some sort of visa (wasnt illegal). If he is from a non-English speaking country does he still have to take TOEFL?

Exactly who has to take the TOEFL? I thought students that got their undergrad degree from US accredited schools do not have to take the TOEFL.

So considering a student like that, would private schools accept him just like other applicants?

You on F1 student Visa?

Private school and some public school do have room for foreign studnet

Far as I know, NYU have bunch of F1 students.

TOEFL is not necessary if your degree is from US college.

You'll have to look individually into schools to find out. Some schools won't waive the TOEFL no matter where you come from or where you went to school.

USUALLY, applicants who received their undergraduate degrees from a NON-ENGLISH speaking institution has to take the TOEFL. But I think some schools have different or more stringent requirements.

Since you go to Northern Illionois University, I don't think that you would need to take the TOEFL. But, still....I suggest you call all the schools you are interested in and ask them if they take international students and if they have extra requirements for them.
