privately owned pharmacys

Hi,
I was wondering why you don't see too many privately owned pharmacies, i rarely ever see them..usually all the pharmacies are within hospitals, rite-aid, sav-on, CVS, etc.

do people who want to get into pharmacy go into pharmacy thinking they will ever have their own pharmacy or do they just expect to be working for one of the big companies like the ones mentioned above?

Just wondering because I had a talk about this with someone..thanks
