Hi,
I am pre-dent student at a 4 year university. I took general chemisty I and i got a B+. Then I took general chemistry II . I expereinced a series of deaths in my family during that time period which made me get an F in that class. I retook that class and god forbid, i was hospitalized during exams week. The professor didn't let me retake the final which made me get a D+. My advisor allowed me to take organic chemistry I on special circumstances basis and i got an A. I am taking organic chemistry II this fall and i believe i will get an A. I will be retaking general chem II before i apply to dental schools. I am also planning on doing Post-bac to improve my GPA.

so my question is, because of two retakes in general chemistry II, should i lose hopes about dental school. I really dont have any preference on what school to attend. Just any school that would take me is fine. Do u guys think if i prove to the adcoms that i am capable but it was all due to external factors, i would atleast stand some chance.

No, you should not loose all hope because you have taken a class twice and didn't do so well at either attempt. There is a place on AADSAS' application for you to explain any circumstances that led you to earn specific grades, take a leave from school, and so on. What is in the past is in the past - focus on the future, your current courses, and your goal of becoming a dentist and you will come out on top. Best of luck!

I agree, don't loose hope. Still, the section on the aadsas that you speak about is no longer there. They have removed it from the 2006 application form. 🙁 I was also anticipating explaining a situation away. In any case, there is a secondary application that some schools have you fill out. I don't know, but maybe then you can explain yourself.

Do the post-bac and take some advanced science classes, do well and you will redeem yourself.
