so i know a couple schools require an anatomy course..
i've been calling my school's offices ALL DAY. i've already taken 3 credits of physiology so i'll defffff take the 1 credit lab in the spring semester.
but apparently my school doesn't have an anatomy course for bio majors. there's 1 course that's anatomy & physiology and it's 2 semesters, but this course is ONLY for nursing students. then there's another human anatomy course that's ONLY for exercise science majors (i talked to the prof and he said he could put me on the waiting list for spring but that there's a REALLY REALLY small chance i'd get it because it's a requirement for exercise science majors and only an elective for bio majors).....
sooo what do i do?! has anyone ever taken... an anatomy course + lab ONLINE? like i looked it up and apparently it's POSSIBLE but in my head.. sounds kinda weird. and i don't really have access to a car or time during the semester to drive myself 40 minutes a couple times a week to a community college. tho if online anatomy course doesn't work.. i'd have to.

alot of classes require anatomy/lab so you should definitely take it. you might not be able to apply to indiana b/c they require the anatomy class be taken from a 4 yr university. but u could try calling them and see if they can make an exception for u since ur school doesnt offer it

I had the similar problem and spoken to Indiana about it. My university does offers an Anatomy course only to KENES majors ( Go Figure ) so I was thinking about taking it online and ...

Indiana does not accept that However, they told me, they allow students to take over the summer in Indiana before they start the Dental school.

I think this is very nice of them to allow something like this so not having Anatomy right now is not the end of the Application process.

Hope that helped.

Does any one know any other schools that require anatomy?

well according to the ADEA official guide book, midwestern AZ requires anatomy and so does UNC Chapel Hill. I didn't apply to Indiana.

What do you mean IN doesn't accept online courses....? I am about to start the anatomy course that IU offers(5 credit hours) at the end of this moth to fulfill this requirement. I sent my class schedule in with my interview dates and they said that it was fine...

Is it offered by them ?
I am just telling you what they told me. I asked if I can take it correspondent with institution that has labs and ... They told me no but we allow you to take it here in May, if you get accepted to our program.

UoP require anatomy as well

♦ Students are advised to complete one course in anatomy as part of the four required semesters of biological sciences.

so it is a requirement? or just highly recommended?

university of the pacific?? really? i don't see it as a "required" course on the ADEA or on their website....

It is advised that one of the 4 Bio course be an anatomy.

I did not noticed that as well and I am going to email them about it and will update you guys on it.

isn't general bio for semester system just 2 semesters? quarter-wise, 3 quarters = 1 full year sequence.

4 semesters = 2 years.. i'm confused 🙁

My school does not offer anatomy so I called up UOP. They stated that anatomy is only advised, not a requirement. So to whoever applied to UOP without anatomy, no worries.

pacific requires 4 SEMESTERS of biology-type courses. so 2 of them would be general bio. so you need 2 semesters of some other bio course (genetics, physiology, anatomy...)

thanks for the update! 🙂

DrTank Beat me to it.

I just called with the same question and got the same reply 🙂

SAME ISSUE YRL.

My uni only offers anatomy for kines, nursing and health science students, so i sent Midwestern a list of anatomy based courses that my uni does offer that may suffice, still waiting for a reply.
Otherwise looks like ill have to find a summer course.

lol this thread makes me feel a tad better, knowing im not the only one who's having this problem.

someone said something about one school (indiana?) that only accepts anatomy from a 4- year university.
does anyone know whether midwestern, uop, asdoh also does this? or is summer BEFORE entering dental school (IF i get accepted) OK??

well even during the summer, ill just be taking it at a 4-year university, one in a neigbouring city. id call midwestern about your specfic circumstance, considering its my only interview so far, i want to be sure i nail the interview and prereqs

oh ok. i'll look into that (anatomy at a 4 year university near by)

habbas- do you mind sharing your gpa/DAT/mailing date/when secondary for midwestern AZ was submitted and when you got your interview?

Kinda stuck in the same dilema as you since UC irvine stopped offering anatomy before I could take it. I really wanted to take it since anatomy has always been a piece of cake for me, its just pure memorizing. I took both physio and physio lab and micro bio and micro lab. I'm sure certain schools will make an exception if you really didn't have the choice to take it because it wasn't offered. Luckily most if not all my state schools here in cali do not require anatomy as a prereq.

I just looked over their pre req's and anatomy is not required but physiology is.

oh yeah, sorry for the confusion. some schools just offer the course as "anatomy & physiology I", "anatomy & physiology II", so I just assumed it as the same 😛

I did West Virginia University for online anatomy with "lab" (it is possible!), which was a legit course for satisfying the requirement, but also a surprisingly high quality course.

I used Berkeley for online biochem and physio.

I'd recommend contacting your dental school and asking if courses like that are acceptable.
