I took the DAT yesterday. I had to go to the bathroom so badly after the reading comprehension part of test so I went immediately after that section. When I returned to start the QR part of my test it had already been running for a little over 6 minutes. As a result I bombed it with a 14. I know I can do much better than that. Can anything be done?

Not unless you'd be willing to retake the exam.

i would be willing to retake the exam, but don't want to wait 3 months or risk having schools see that 14 either. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

If it makes you feel any better....I had the entire time limit without using the bathroom and I only got a 15. It is true however that most schools won't even look at an applicant unless all sections are a 15 or higher. If the rest of your scores are extremely high and your gpa also, then I would still go ahead and apply this year. That's just me though.

Thanks Jman! My situation is really complicated...

I just don't know how that happened. I am so upset... I contacted the DAT and I am hoping there is a way they can review the tape of me taking the test (assuming it is recorded) to see what happened...

I'm not exactly sure what you're confused about here. The only time the clock stops is for 15 minutes in between PAT and RC. Reviewing the tape will show that you went to the bathroom after RC and the test continued while you were gone like it should have. I'm really sorry that happened but that's the way it works.

I am quite sure you're not the only person this has ever happened to. Unfortunately, by that I mean it's not an unusual or exceptional occurrence. The clock does not stop for any reason. Once RC ends, QR immediately begins If you came in with 6 minutes gone, that means you took that long to go to the bathroom at a time you were not supposed to have a scheduled break. Do you mind if I ask why you had to go at that time rather than during your 15min break? Did something happen during the RC section?

It's up to you if you want to apply and try to spin it, but imo an adcom is probably going to look at that and see a very low score. If they know the reason why, it might reflect badly if they try to infer that you managed your time poorly =/

UCBO5- I had a bladder infection. I also went after the PA section.

Wow that blows =/ I guess it was too acute to reschedule your test... Whatever way you go with that, be sure to make a note of it. If the school are diligent enough to evaluate every application beyond just the numbers, I would hope they take that into account. A medical condition sounds much better than just waking out to pee.
