I am writing to ask if anyone who reads this particular forum has heard of any problems with the University of Rochester Pediatric Residency Program. I am not a part of that system, but I have heard some concerning rumors from more than one former resident.
Specifically residents being pressured to work overtime and also pressured to lie about their hours when they do. I also heard that residents are retaliated against when they honestly report the hours they work - in 2 cases at least where a resident has been questionably held back and threatened with probation.
I want to make it clear that I am not making these accusations, however I would like to know if anyone here is familiar with the program at all and heard any similar rumors. Perhaps I will get a bunch of "no way, man! That's crazy! They are great!" comments back (and I am happy to). But, in case not I would like to hear more about what others have heard or experienced.
I have a personal interest in the general ways in which some residency programs abuse their residents, despite the implementation of new work hour rules, etc. Therefore if anyone has information regarding other programs (besides Rochester) that might be doing this, then I would like to hear about them, as well. Also, I will keep everything strictly confidential, should you feel like contacting me offline (if so, please ask for my email).
Thank you for reading, and good luck to all of you.

So who and what are you? Med student? Resident at another program? Director of a competitive program? MCGME representative? Walmart worker?

I only ask because those are heavy allegations to put out there in a forum that is viewed by a lot of potential candidates.

As I clearly stated, I have not made any "allegations," heavy or otherwise. I have asked the question because I am interested in others' opinions on residency programs and the effects of regulations that are designed to help residents. In some cases, the aftereffects can have the opposite intent.
Unfortunately in some programs that are malignant in nature, residents are forced to work more hours in violation of the regulations and pressured in to not report these hours. My main interest is in learning about what has happened in such programs and in helping to devise a system so that these abuses do not occur.
Also, your "Walmart worker" comment is offensive. The recent tragedy in Bangladesh should remind all of us that no workers should be seen as expendable. You should think twice before belittling honest and hard working people in this country or otherwise.

Sketchy... Are you doing a research project or something? If so, SDN is definitely not the appropriate place for this.
