what procedure book/website would you recommend for a medical intern? Im looking for stuff like central line placement, A line insertion, and all that other fun stuff that you get to do for the first time in the unit.
thanks

roberts and hedges is the procedure book for EM but has most of the unit stuff as well - if you can get on MD Consult, it's free online

You can hardly do better than the NEJM Procedure Videos for the basic stuff:
http://content.nejm.org/misc/videos.shtml

Includes chest tubes, intubation, central lines (SC and IJ), a-lines, paracentesis, thoracentesis, LP, lac repair, I+D and a few others. Basically, this will get you through most basic floor and unit procedures you'll need to deal w/ as an intern. I used them as refreshers as an intern before doing a procedure and as a senior, I use them to prep my interns and med students (assuming it's a semi-elective procedure, not a crash situation). By the middle of your intern year, assuming you have a couple of unit/ED months, you'll be comfortable w/ the procedures you need on a regular basis to not have to worry about them but it's nice to know where to find direction if you need it.
