Hey so 2017 applications aren't open yet and when I asked my professor to write a LOR she told me to "send her the link". Is this link available before apps are out or do I have to wait until they are open.

I viewed a few other posts but am still confused how the LOR process works. So on my app, I'm supposed to submit my professors email address and the adcoms will contact that email w/ instructions?

1) It is the AMCAS 2018 Cycle that is current. Cycles are dated by year of matriculation
2) It has been open since May 2nd
3) you need to generate a letter request see https://aamc-orange.global.ssl.fast...2018_amcas_instruction_manual-web.pdf#page=58
4) you cant send them a specific link to your request but you can send them a link to AMCAS Letter Writer Application
5) you can also send them a tutorial at AMCAS Tutorial: Using the Letter Writer Application
6) Multiple other resources in letters from AMCAS can be found at my previous post here *~*~*~*Official Letters of Recommendation Questions Thread 2017-2018*~*~*~*
7) I would include the letter writers guide (attached) when sending email to professor

thank you! I forgot I'm writing as dental student so ours opens jun 1.

Are you applying to medical or dental school?

In either case I need a psychologist
Thanks! By the way, is it allowed to fill out my own information under my doctor's name for the LOR section? I don't want to bother my doctor so I'm going to send it in myself. It will have his contact information and everything still in the original letter.

The moment you do that, your application will be held and investigated. Sending it in yourself is grounds for being banned from AMCAS (like forever).
Oh I did not realize it seems shady. I thought they could contact the doctor whenever they wanted. thank you!

On an aside note, what kind of stuff can get you in trouble with AMCAS? Like, permanently? What kind of stuff can be proven to have been a genuine mistake? ( Say, a nontrad took Orgo I back in 2009 and W'd, in 2012 they take it again. They forget about the original W and only put the class down as being taken once.) Or anything else? I've been wondering this for a lil' while now.

I've read through all of the resources, but am still unsure about the timeline. Are we allowed to gather LOR before AMCAS opens, or are the writers only allowed to submit when it opens in early May?

Prior to AMCAS opening in MAY, you can gather LORs only with outside resources. That is Interfolio and your UG's premed committee or premed advisor. This is because to submit to AMCAS you letter an AMCAS Letter ID , which can only be generated by you after AMCAS opens in May. And I always note, the vast majority of medical schools require, recommend or prefer Committee letters.

My university does not have a pre-med committee, nor do I have a pre-med advisor. Could an academic advisor/the academic advising committee work in the same way?

Why do you need that?

You simply have them generate their letter prior to applications opening. Fill out their information on the application and it sends them an e-mail where they can submit their letter.

Their letter is attached to your application upon receipt.

You are allowed either a compiled Committee letter or individual letters if a committee is not available to you.
