i dont mean to hijack this thread, but just how procedural is rad onc, as a specialty? what types of things are commonly done?

Yes procedures are done, do a search or read the FAQ. In brief there is interstitial/intracavitary brachytherapy (insertion of radioactive sources into patients), intra-operative radiation (given in the OR directly into a resection cavity), and administration of antibodies w/ conjugated isotopes.

Practicing RadOncs can specialize in brachytherapy if they desire and spend a good chunk of their time in the OR.
