Hi Everyone!

I am a Californian & I'm thinking about applying to Canadian PT programs (master's). (Many Canadian schools are much more affordable compared with schools in California!)

In the future, I would like to work in Canada and China. However, there is a good chance that I would want to come back to California to work.

The only program that is accredited by APTA is University of Toronto, but they do not accept international students. I am considering applying to University of Alberta, University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan, etc. But I am a bit hesitant because I'm not sure how the process would be like to work in the US with a master's in PT from Canada.

Does anyone know what the process is like? Or does anyone have advice for me?

Thanks!

From what I understand, it would be considered foreign graduate PT. If the school is not accredited, then you would have to undergo credentialing process by a third party to show whether or not your degree is equivalent to the US degree. Then depending on the state board, you may or may not have to a certain period of clinical affiliation. California requires 9 months. You can find the details here: http://www.ptbc.ca.gov/applicants/foreign_apps.shtml

May I ask why you would want to work in China? I would imagine that the salary is much lower there, and from my understanding PTs are still not very well known or utilized in China.
