  1. Attending Physician
I am a U.S. citizen, and I am interested in moving to Canada to work as a psychiatrist.

I went to medical school in the Caribbean. I have completed the USMLE Steps 1, 2 CK, 2CS, and 3. I am presently doing my psychiatry residency in the U.S., and have 2 years remaining.

What would I have to do to get a medical license to practice as a psychiatrist in Canada? Would I need to take additional exams? Would I have to repeat my residency training over in Canada?

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I suggest you visit the Royal canadian college of physicians at this site http://rcpsc.medical.org/main_e.php or contact them directly.

They'll be able to tell you if you need to undertake further training in Canada and/or write canadian licencing exams.

I also suggest you check the requirements of the licensing body of the province you wish to practice in.

It's usualy canadians who go south, it's nice to see the other way around! May I ask why you want to practice in Canada?
