I have pretty decent stats, 3.78 and 35, goof LORs and ECs, but got my primary app in somewhat late (was verified in mid August) and because of a family crisis, am just now getting around to completing my secondaries. I know people say its important to fill them out immediately so schools know you are interested- should I include like a brief statement on the secondary saying "Due to a family crisis I am completing this secondary later than I had hoped, but I really am interested in (your school here)"? I am also thinking of adding some more schools on AMCAS so maybe they will send me the link to their secondaries now and I can get them in on time- thoughts?

thanks!

I would think it won't hurt to write the statement about the family crisis. It is a little odd to wait a month to them and the explanation helps, but I don't think it would really hurt you overall, but definitely write them as soon as you can.

Your stats are good enough, I doubt it will hurt your chances but you can add more schools if you have the cash.

I agree with this. Your goof LORs might hurt you though.

He meant good but f is near d on the keyboard

I'm in the same situation. You won't have time to really get them right but if you just want to do a moderate job (which I think is sufficient) then it shouldn't take too long. I have a turnaround time of about an hour for the lighter ones and maybe a few hours for the longer ones. Eventually you will have enough essays to just modify them a bit for each school (diversity essay, challenges, etc.) Just push yourself and you'll get it done soon enough.

While a school might be tigher with interviews as secondaries are received later in the season, they won't pass on somebody with a strong application just because it's September. I submitted mine in October, and no mention was ever made of it.

Good luck!
