So - I'm a nontraditional older (so bear with me, not as technologically oriented as the younger generation!) premed student, and I currently have 2 jobs - both of which are really intense and email heavy.

I'm in the orientation part of being a scribe, and all the videos, hundreds of pages of company policy handbooks, etc, are via email and online. I'm also an EMT, just finally got my state license after passing the national - and I'm hired with a company - but we do have our own email system.

That being said, my normal "First Name, Last Name" gmail is chock full of spam, filters, and everything else. At one point it had 30,000 emails. I think it's creeping back up to 10,000.

I also shadow physicians, and have applied and been accepted to several postbacc programs and I'm attending cc next semester (in 2 weeks), but I have email for that too, and do volunteer work when I can.

Is creating an email "First Name, Last Name PreMed" At Gmail.com an unprofessional email account? Should I just use it for my jobs and healthcare volunteer and other premed activities or can I also use it when it's time to apply via AAMCAS?

Thanks in advance,

I just meant "health" - I didn't mean to come off as pretentious, but I have more than one email, I think I have about 10 different emails (some I know I've forgotten) so it was more for me to sort through the madness.

I agree. Don't use "premed" in the name. If you need to create another gmail account, choose a different variation on your name. For example, you could add in your middle name, if you have one - JohnASmith@gmail or something like that.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sitting here organizing my life for New Years resolutions and wow. There are no words.

To make your life easier, you should really whittle things down to 1 email or maybe 1 personal and 1 business. Please do not include "premed" in your address. A professional email address is some permutation of your name. I'd also avoid numbers, but I know a lot of school and work emails utilize numbers.

Gmail has an awesome extension called "Multiple inboxes" where you can set filters and have up to 5 inboxes on your front page (sounds cluttered, but it's actually really nice). You have 2 jobs - so you can have 1 inbox for each job and filter emails to go there. You can have an inbox for all the emails for your postbacc. Another inbox for shadowing and volunteering. And keep the main inbox for personal use/everything else.

Agreed. Leave "premed" out of it (partly because it's weird, and partly because if you get in you'll have just another extra email address). An address dedicated to school/professional is a good idea though.
