B. shuts off FSH production
C. prepares uterus for implanataion of the zygote

answer was C but isn't B also correct?
I thought progestron shuts off FSH and LH thus preventing ovulation.
 
I believe Estrogen is antagonistic with LH. But it actually causes LH to peak during ovulation.
 
When I took bio, i also learned that progesterone was the negative feedback, but in my Kaplan classes, and from what it says there- esp if you're getting a question from them, they say that this is what happens:

fsh is increased to make follicle- fsh secretes estrogen
Estrogen increases, and eventually shuts off Fsh and LH gets turned on (also by estrogen) , and by turning on LH, you get the follicle to turn into the corpus luteum, which secretes progesterone to mature the endometrium for implantation.
 
Hi levels of both estrogen and progesterone together inhibit GnRH, which in turn inhibits FSH. GnRH has a pos feedback on LH only.

Yeah, that's exactly what I learned.
LH and FSH are regulated by GnRH.
Progesterone basically inhibit GnRH to inhibit LH and FSH.
This is why I think B should be the answer too.
 
it is the COMBINATION that shuts off LH and FSH by inhibitin of the hypothalamus and pituitary system. C is a better answer bc progesterone is soley responsible for preparation for implantation, although technically you are right. Poorly stated question dude.
