program director vs. residency director

they are the same thing, correct?

i believe program director = residency director. one of my friends thinks that program director = department chair.

who is correct?

Some program directors are also department chairs... that's not always true.

Sometimes there is a chairman, program director and an assistant program director.

The terms residency director and program director are interchangable but I have rarely heard residency director used.. everyone understands that the program director. Sometimes you gotta say residency program director cause you dont want people to confuse the title with fellowship program director which are usually different people.
