Hi All,

My post residency interests are likely in not so competitive things - Having an option to do cards, GI or heme onc would be cool but lets see what song I sing after a couple years of doing this and reimbursements jumping around...

I am in my mid 20's. I don't mind working long and hard hours. But I don't wanna blow the rest of my 20's and be at a place that sucks in terms of colleagues and location. So I am starting this thread in quest of places that don't suck on my ranking parameters:

1. Location - Low cost of living**, Ideally near some body of water (lake, ocean, etc), Warm and Sunny.

2. Colleagues - Nice, Smiley / Laugh a lot, Well adjusted, Genuinely Curious, Like their work, Thoughtful, Articulate/ Well Spoken, Jovial, Jokers, Open Communicators, Value self care and work life balance, Program wide value for empathy, relative disdain for vanity, Introspective... Just some normal, nice, people.

Excellent resident-attending relationships and open communication channels.

A plus if people surf, own jet skis, or kayaks...

3. Program - Well supported, good ancillary support.

4. Research - Don't care so much in what, but just somewhere that provides adequate infrastructure and encouragement.

To this, I kind of shotgunned a lot of the south on ERAS... Like TX, GA, LA, SC, NC, AZ, FL, VA, CA (I kind of regret CA, I had sunshine lust 🙂 etc

Does anyone know any programs in particular that fits this so I can add them on?

Thanks everyone and sorry if this is redundant...

UTMB allegedly has very happy residents and offers a good work/life balance, and while I don't know about their fellowship match rates the clinical training is supposed to be good.

Galveston is the Cleveland of beaches, though.
