program swap?

So I'm an intern on the east coast, and my parents have both recently been diagnosed with some significant health problems. They live in the midwest, fortunately in a town with a large teaching hospital. There are currently no open positions near my home town to just apply for. I'm interested in knowing if it is possible to swap spots with another resident in another program? I'm toying with the idea of moving home to be able to help take care of them, and as these are more chronic (and thankfully not terminal) problems they are dealing with it's not realistic to simply take time off. Does anyone know anyone who has arranged a swap between two programs without a vacancy being available already? Or can someone suggest other options I should look into?

You cannot swap programs. Neither one of you may be a good fit for the other program. There would still have to be an interview process. If you haven't checked already, you need to keep checking the CREOG Clearinghouse. If not, you will have to take a break in your training.
