So I received an interview invite, accepted, and set up my date. They send a follow up email with directions, hotels, etc.... and they say something like, "By the way, we also would like to know your undergrad gpa. We dont need the transcripts, just a number."

Wtf? Honestly, really turned me off to a program I was already borderline about attending the interview.

Damn...did you accidentally post this in anesthesia instead of ortho?

Seems a bit odd, especially if they don't want the actual transcript. Just tell them it's a 4.00 and call it a day 🙂

odd. ive heard of other specialties asking for this though. wonder if it has any predictive value or they are just tools

What program?

UMKC wanted my high school GPA, too.

Hahah... I'm pretty sure this is referring to UMKC. They asked for my undergrad GPA as well. Maybe this has something to do their med school having a 6-year program straight out of high school.

very very odd.

Meh, I'm not sure what the issue is. It took you longer to post this thread than it would have for you to have emailed them a response.

If you truly don't want the spot, then just turn down the interview.

I'm a DO, so my first thought went to that. Were they targeting DOs to see if any of us 'snuck in' to med school with a 3.2 or something? My second thought was, "who cares?" We have over 3 years of medial school grades and two standardized objective tests to judge our abilities on. Who gives an F what our college grades were? This coming from someone that had a 3.7, so I'm not worried about it hurting me, just found it odd.

Either way, it looks like they're asking everyone. So whatever, no harm no foul.

What probably happened is that some administrator asked them to gather this info so that they could make an excel graph and powerpoint slide for some presentation to higher-ups at some point in the future. It's unlikely that anyone who's making interview or rank list decisions actually cares about this.

No reason to view this with an inferiority complex or chip on your shoulder. Just another hoop to jump through. Plenty of those coming up ...
