Hi Everyone,

Can people tell me of residency programs that they know of that are historically very open to foreign medical graduates? Specifically, someone with an H1 visa. Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

Although it's a lot of work, you could always look at the websites of programs you are interested in. Often they have a page that will identify their residents and from whence they came.

Baystate, UAMS, UF, BWH and CCF to name a few. I think Henry Ford and Jackson Miami also accept some FMGs each year.

I thought several FMG's matched at wayne state last year, maybe someone here could confirm that.

As a rule of thumb, the less desirable the location the more amenable to FMGs a program will be. Even mediocre programs in big cities get lots of good applicants and the belief is out there that being known as "FMG friendly" is a sure way to lose program clout.

When your harvard or hopkins you can take IMGs and no one can say anything ...but if your not then the programs can be wary. Just my 2 cents. If i was you I would look at previous match lists and call up programs. Can be time consuming and expensive...or you can just apply to every single program and see what happens.....

University of Rochester in upstate NY interviewed a few folks from Ross or AUC when I was interviewing there. It is a tremendous program, with happy residents.
