Guys, can we list programs that we have not heard from post-interview (after sending thank you e-mails to the PDs) ?

Here's mine: Berkshire, Danbury, U of South Alabama, UMDNJ-Newark, Howard

Also, please post if you have been contacted by any programs listed on this thread.

Thanks.

You mean you sent a thank you to a PD and you didn't get any reply from them, like "it was nice meeting you too"????

How rude!

Nope, nothing. Not even a short reply!

Is this fairly common? Or do they just think I suck?

I don't know what happened. I was courteous and respectful during the interviews, and told them how much I like Pathology and would love to train at their program if given the opportunity.

It's common for them not to respond to you after you write them. Some programs will contact people even before they send out their post-interview "remember me" kind of correspondences.

So if you hear something, you're awesome.
If you don't hear something, it could mean that you suck or they just don't care about recruiting.

There were a couple programs that sent correspondenses immediately after my interview but didn't write back after I sent them a "thank you," JHU, WashU, New Mexico.

I've also not heard back from several programs after sending thank you emails. It certainly would be nice if all PDs would at least send a short reply, but I don't think that it means very much either way. For example, I didn't hear back from one PD after sending a thank you email right after interviewing. However, I recently received a phone call from someone else in the program to say that I am one of their top choices.

Sinnet: You should know whether or not you are a strong applicant based on your scores, etc. Several of the places that you listed are among the least competitive path programs (eg Danbury). Some of them have had to scramble in the last couple of years. Therefore, if you are even moderately competitive you will match at one of them (if you wish).

Well, I am an IMG with average scores and LoRs from community-based pathologists.

Based on my list above, can someone rank it from the most to least competitive?

Thanks.

Well, I would add to your list all the programs that I interviewed at. 😉 Although that doesn't mean they don't contact people, just that they don't contact me.

My email to Vandy got no response. Anyone else hear/not hear from them post-interview?

Don't worry so much about programs not contacting you. Unless you have a specific question, many will see no need to respond. It doesn't necessarily mean anything. Yes, some programs will contact selected individuals, but often it's only a handful. Not getting contacted doesn't mean you're inferior or subpar or anything. Just relax, you've done what you can.

My e-mail from Vandy got no response either. I did receive an e-mail from Cleveland Clinic a few days after the interview. Just a general we enjoyed having you interview here blah blah blah. I also got an e-mail from UAB that was pretty much the same!

Just out of curiosity, can anyone rank the programs listed above from most to least competitive?

Thanks.

from what i've heard from various sources, none of those places are particularly competitive. please note that does not necesarilly equal bad programs. if you're interested in any/all of them for whatever reason, look into it/them further. but in all the discussions i've seen here and have had with people, none of those programs ever come up when people are discussing competitive programs.

anyone get a follow-up from bidmc?

Lets continue this post for this year.

For me, PD's from NYU, Yale and Cornell never responded.

Has anyone gotten any post-interview contact from any programs? If so, maybe we could start listing the programs and what they said.

DO NOT....I REPEAT DO NOT RANK HOWARD. The program sees 4,500-5,000 surgicals a year! You will be poorly trained in AP and most likely you will have to do a surg path fellowship to make up for it.

I got emails/letters of interest from Hopkins, Wash U, and UT Southwestern.

The residencies that don't contact you at all are definitely more annoying than this group. I had a handful of programs that I had to call & ask because I never heard from them. It would've been nice for them to just send you some form letter as a common courtesy.

A classmate got a letter from Iowa saying they liked her, but nothing specific...I, however did not get the letter. So I guess I am hosed when it comes to IOWA (though I did interview later).

Christmas card from IUPUI,
Letter from UNC-Chapel Hill,
Phone call from PD from U Penn

Nothing from...
Cleveland (PD told me they do no post-interview contact),
Pittsburgh (PD told me they will be contacting me in mid-January to let me know my rank position)
Michigan

Hope this helps somebody!

Here's what I've gotten so far:

UVa: email from chief resident
UPenn: phone call, Christmas card from PD
Emory: nothing
Vanderbilt: email from PD
UAB: nothing (but PD said that they do not contact)
Duke: invite for second look
UNC: nothing
Hopkins: letter from PD, phone call from PD and letter from chair both indicating rank order.

Hope that helps somebody...

I'll add mine-

Duke: invite for second look
UNC: letter
UTSW: letter x2 and email
UT-Houston: email
Mayo: email

Nothing from Vanderbilt, Emory, Methodist-Houston, Baylor, Michigan, or MUSC
