Does anyone know which programs offer the 3 years of neurology plus the preliminary year at their same program. Which do not ? Does such a list exist? Thanks

Such a list does not exist yet...It seems as though each year, more and more programs are guaranteeing the PGY1 year. We can begin a list here...I'll write back with my additions.

Of the programs I looked at that I can remember:

Required PGY-1- Pitt

Optional PGY-1 (guaranteed if you want it, but not required)
- Iowa
- UVa
- Vanderbilt
- OHSU
- Minnesota
- Penn State- Hershey

On your own to find your PGY-1
- Maryland
- Tennessee

These are the ones I can remember. I know there are more out there.

Temple U in Phily also guarantees you a Medicine year.

You could make a list like that for yourself off the SFMatch directory - or just scroll down it and note which are noted as 3+1 (integrated) versus 3/1 (find your own).

I will just add to tec's list...Maybe everyone can add to this list too...I will add neurolome's too:

Respectfully, I disagree. I found that only about half the programs had listed themselves accurately. Call or email to find out for sure.

And I disagree with everyone who is saying PGY-1 is optional at Minnesota. I specifically called about this after my interview and they said that only in some rare circumstances was it allowed to be done elsewhere and must be discussed with PD before you rank to get permission.

Oh, and Tennessee (UT Memphis) DOES include a PGY-1 and you have to take it. (Neuro pays for the IM spots)

Maybe Minnesota changed their pitch after I interviewed in mid-October, but I specifically remember the PD stating that while they encourage applicants to do their PGY-1 there, it is not required (I even wrote it down in my notes). He did not state anything different when I spoke with him in early January. This was something I was paying attention to at programs because I need to stay in my current location until 2007 because of my husband's job.

My info may be a year old, but I'll add a few....
