So I have been told that I have demonstrated reinvention. I am a first generation college student with a very compelling story, (lived in a shelter, took care of my siblings and mother since I was 11-12.) My question is when do I know I am ready to take my MCAT. I have my application submitted for verification and would like to apply this cycle. I have 3 DO letters of rec along with the necessary school letters. I wasted my AAMC sample, FL 1 and FL 2 early on and scored around 497ish on them. I took a NS FL and scored a 499, and finally I have taken two EK Fl and scored in the range of 501-505. My plan is to take the third AAMC FL and see what it says I am at and if I am still near my goal score go ahead and schedule the exam. Does this sound plausible? My goal score is 505-510.

What is your cGPA and sGPA?
Edit: sorry I realize I didn't answer your question, I think if you goal score is a 505-510, but you are not consistently scoring that on practice exams, I think that could be wishful thinking for an MCAT score. When I studied for the MCATs, I took full length exams once a week, and then2x a week for the last 3-4 weeks or more. I think you would have to be consistently scoring in that range before you can take the MCAT and have a chance at scoring at that level. Right now, it seems like if you took the MCAT you would score between 500-505.

< 3.0

Goro has advised me that with a good MCAT score I am ready to apply. I have far to many credits to try and raise them both to above or even a 3.0. As Goro says, its not about my GPA anymore as much as it is showing that I am no longer a subpar student.

I am sure you have probably looked at this guide, but I figured I'd attach it anyway.
I think you will have to see what you score on the 3rd FL exam, but I do not think it is very plausible for an official MCAT score between 505-510 if you have not yet scored in that range for any FL exam.

I am not trying to necessarily be negative, so I apologize if that is how I come across, I am just trying to give you a realistic perspective.

Yes that guide has been my bible for the past two years. I have scored 503 and 505 on my previous two full lengths. I will be taking full length 3 from AAMC and seeing how that goes.

I work as a scribe in an ED. Nothing comes across as rude anymore to me. lol

To clarify I would be okay with only scoring a 505 if it meant going to one of the DO schools in my state. The minimum science GPA for one of them is a 2.7 and I am above that. So scoring a 505 I would be okay with.

haha I work as an EMT, so I understand that

I think it is realistic to think you will score between a 500-505 if you take the MCATs soon, if you can afford them or have access to them, I would highly suggest any of the AAMC question banks/sample questions. If I retook the MCAT, I would 10000% focus more on questions from AAMC and NOT from kaplan or next step (or anything similar), because I noticed a substantial difference in the passages/questions, and the AAMC uses old official MCAT questions.

The difference I noticed was that you had to analyze and use the passage more for AAMC questions, where kaplan's or next step's (I did not personally use exam kracker or any other resources) questions are much more content knowledge based.

Yea I have the qpacks and section banks. I am currently utilizing them as well as getting a better grasp on physics. After reviewing my most recent exam I realized there was so many physics questions on there that I didn't have a good understanding. EK also tends to put ALOT of trick questions on their tests. Which I did not find useful.

If you have the time, you could also put together full-length exams using the qpacks and section bank- you won't be able to get a score, but you can compare how many questions you got right/wrong to other FL exams. And more practice

Definitely! Thank you for the suggestions! I wanted to apply both MD and DO but I am afraid taking more time is going to make my MD application extremely late. So I will solely be applying DO. Just stinks because my states schools are reinvention friendly. lol.

For sure! I definitely agree with solely applying DO, unfortunately it is already quite late in the MD cycle. Just be sure to choose carefully because I know school's such as VCOM screen out applicants under a 3.2 (you might already know that)

And if you do want to be EM, there's soooo many DOs nowadays going into emergency medicine, so you will be fine! Good luck with your studies and taking the MCATs!

I don't know if ~30 credit hours is enough for reinvention, but depending on everything else you may have a good shot. I would say you should keep taking classes through the cycle even if you're shooting your shot this time around. Just to be safe and increase your odds if you have to reapply.

Do what you can to crush the MCAT. Best of luck.

Goro is the one who told me I have shown reinvention, his rule is 2-4 semesters. I am at 38 credits of all A's and 2 B's. I also am enrolled in 18 credits this semester. As long as I score a 505 I will be happy. My number one DO school is LECOM.

Yea alot of the EM doctors I work with are DO. I want a competitive specialty but that could always change. I know DO have a harder time obtaining such specialties but I feel if I continue to bust my ass if I get accepted that I can do anything. I also know of multiple DO surgeons. Also yea VCOM *Facepalm* crazy haha.

Yeah I have the same mentality as you, and just an fyi, I just interviewed at LECOM- seton hill and ignore all the negative comments about it online- people are just salty about a dress code (which I understand, but it is what is it), I absolutely loved it, and LECOM has really good matches consistently. All the students seemed happy and like they enjoyed the program- don't know much about the other campuses, but I know the curriculum is similar throughout (well PBL vs Lecture)

Thats awesome to hear! My daughters god father and my best friend just matriculated to the Bradenton campus and he loves it. I am hoping to attend that campus but I am applying to all of them. I have 25 schools on my list.

As far as the dress code goes I am all for it. LOL. I love dressing nice.
