As I am doing Uworld I can use the keyboard to select my answer, by pressing (a,b,c,d, etc) I find this faster than using the mouse. ON the actual test is the keyboard also usable???

also in the prometric center is it PC or mac (i assume its a pc but am asking just in case).

I'm not sure, you'd probably be better off checking with the center or read it at nbme. Overall, probably not going to affect your score whether you take it with keyboard or mouse. How do you find it faster, anyway? Did you have someone time you and discover that when you use the keyboard it only takes you 0.45s to choose the answer after you have decided and when you use the mouse it takes you 0.73s?

If I recall correctly, keyboard shortcuts worked on FRED v1 when I took Step 1 last year. The practice NBME FRED v2 software also allows keyboard shortcuts, so it should also work at the Prometric centers.

It may be center dependent, but the one I went to last year was 100% PC.

I recently took an exam through prometric, and I gotta tell you , the lack of keyboard function PISSES ME OFF. Yes, you can press a,b,c,d,e to choose your answer, but you are a slave to the mouse, and are forced to use it every time you want to press NEXT or PREVIOUS to move through the questions. it is horrible to sit there for 6+ hours, trying to relax in the chair, with your right arm at full extension this entire period of time.

I wrote a lengthy review at the end of my exam, specifically bitching about this issue. It's the small things, ya know?

Yeah, those Problemetric keyboards work great for when they seat you inbetween a bunch of MCATers and ppl taking certificiation exams that require beaucoup de typing.
