Propofol implicated in Michael Jackson's death

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From the article:

"[Jackson] said, `I don't like drugs. I don't want any drugs. My doctor told me this is a safe medicine,'" Lee said. The next day, she said she brought a copy of the Physician's Desk Reference to show him the section on Diprivan.

"He said, 'No, my doctor said it's safe. It works quick and it's safe as long as somebody's here to monitor me and wake me up. It's going be OK,'" Lee said. She said he did not give the doctor's name.

Sounds like he must have been seeing a GI doc! 🙄

What's up with these celebs using a NP as their primary counsultant on nutrition/primary care/sleep medicine?

Not too bright.

Guy had some obvious chronic pain problems. Should have seen a pain mgmt anesthesiologist, not an NP. One of my attendings showed me case reports of using propofol in guys like MJ...crazy chronic pain guys who can't sleep.

he was in debt. she was cheaper.

nice...his own minute clinic!

What about the cardiologist he had? Not exactly the best resume' or reputation, either. Hire away a top anesthesiology-ccm guy. I'm sure militarymd would have taken care of Jacko for the right price.👍

I think more outpatients should be on propofol. What do you guys think

I agree. I think it is underutilized not only as a tx for insomnia, but as an antihypertensive. Picc lines for everyone and a bard pump is so much more convenient than PO BID, or QHS dosing.

And don't underestimate the new parent market - "guaranteed to get your child to sleep!"

seems like he would ruin his veins if he was using propofol frequently; was he starting his own IV's? a PICC? how about the anesthesiologist who accompanied him on the 1997? tour? anyone know him; CBS tried to interview him: "no comment"

maybe this was Michael Jackson's problem. Maybe he was in Stage 2 all the time

the fact that michael jackson may have died because of iv propofol: fail.
