USMLE Pros/Cons of Pathoma and Goljian?

what are the Pros/Cons of Pathoma and Goljian?
If you use them you'll score higher on USMLE?? Are you asking about a comparison between the two? I feel like a lot of people use Pathoma as a surface level knowledge source, but miss out on a lot of the deeper knowledge it provides. For example, it's really easy to take the couple hours needed to watch the videos for the first three chapters, make some marks in your book, and call it done...but there's way more to it than that. I think if you take the time to REALLY understand what he's talking about rather than just trying to memorize the outline, it's golden. For Goljjan, are you looking at the Rapid Review book or the audio?

thanks for the reply. i was mostly looking for the differences between the two. like why would you use on resource over the other. for goljjan im looking into the audio as i heard thats more resourceful. any feedback at all is welcome. im just curious as why one would use goljjan over pathoma via pros and cons.

I would definitely use Pathoma and if you have extra time add the Goljjan audio. I used Pathoma more actively....took notes during the videos, looked up things as I went along, etc....then I used the Goljjan audio much more passively. I mainly listened to it as I was commuting/working out. I would often find myself hearing his voice in my head when I was doing questions. He has a way of adding clarity and a new perspective on topics that makes answering questions much easier. I'm definitely in the minority on this, but as my test date got closer and closer, I ended up not using Pathoma very much. I ended up only using it as resource when I would get several questions on one topic wrong in a row.

To be completely honest, Goljan audio is out of date. I reviewed it twice before taking my exam and it did not help me in the slightest. Step 1 is a moving target, and I'm afraid goljan audio does not review material in-depth enough to be of value.

You would best spend your time going through Pathoma more times.

Goljan RR path, on the other hand, is a great reference for tough path concepts.

I've been using Goljan audio not to learn material in-depth, but just to further help integrate disciplines/subjects. I think he does a fantastic job of tying together concepts and helping make connections. But it's definitely not a primary resource of mine -- just as casual listening while driving/walking the dog to supplement my UFAPS studying.

If it's no problem in terms of time, go for it!

would going through pathoma twice be more beneficial than going through pathoma and goljian once each?

My opinion:
--Pathoma is golden, especially if you use it throughout second year to get a good foundation in path. If you're in PBL or another curriculum that utilizes textbooks, a pass through Pathoma makes understanding Robbins possible. Then I blasted through some of my trouble spot chapters again during dedicated.
--Rapid Review is really useful, but dense. I don't know if I'd recommend putting in the time it would take to get through it thoroughly, especially during dedicated. If you figure out a way to pull it off, it'd probably be helpful.
--Goljan audio is wonderful and I want to adopt Goljan as my honorary grandpa. I absolutely recommend it. Not as a primary source (too time-consuming) but listen to it in the car, when you're cooking dinner, etc. My poor husband was forced to listen to it in the car with me a few times
