Hi,
I am trying to decide if i want to even apply to USC. Few reasons why I hesitate to even apply:
1. Problem based learning (PBL) program.
2. Hear of low graduation rates
3. It is hard to get patients even with a large patient pool
4. I hear that clinical training isn't good.

can students who attend USC elaborate on the problem based learning. I hear that you meet with a professor, he gives you some kind of case study, your group members get different parts to research and you basically learn on your own. What else is there to this PBL style of learning?

and can you elaborate on those above mentioned points?

Also what are some of the pros and cons to USC dental school

Are you nuts? Unless you have really low GPA and DAT scores, do apply; otherwise try your chances at any other school. SC Dental is in deep **** right now; it is not the best time to apply to this school.

Right NOW its really crappy. it sucks to be a 2008 or 2009 graduate. But you'll probably be part of the 2012 class. Things should get better by then. Apply and interview there.

can you elaborate as to what's wrong with sc right now?

Just read all the other USC threads. The subject is well covered.

Exactly, an extensive explanation of the current situation at USC is extensively covered throughout both Pre-dental and Dental forums. Change was imminent; currently, things haven't change, however there was no way in hell, that the incompetent administration that we have would get away with unfair treatment to us the 2008 class. Needless to say I am very proud to be part of this group of Dental students. This is a comment made by one of our finest faculty that has been a faculty at SC for more than 20 years:

[FONT='PrimaSans BT,Verdana,sans-serif']"Congratulations to your group [class of 2008]! It was predictable that action [Petition made to the Board Committee] such as this was needed to bring about long overdue change. You have not been getting the training and education you need for at least seven years.
This is encouraging to all the former faculty that couldn't stand the
frustration and ultimately quit teaching."
