Protein structures

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What do you mean? Like ribosomal RNA synthesizes proteins, trypsin degrades proteins, lipases degrade fats, amylase breaks down starch, etc. The goal is to memorize where the proteins originate from and their overall purpose.

@FancyFloss Thanks that's helpful. But I'm talking about specific structures like primary, sec, ter, quar.
How do you memorize their structure and function?

primary is a line
secondary is 2d
tertiary is 3d
quaternary is multiple 3d together

obviously this means nothing if you don't UNDERSTAND the actual topic.

@TheEpicFruitCake thanks for the breakdown. I have a hard time answering q's that say what type of protein is this ? so I thought I needed to know little bit about the structure of each. What else about the topic would you recommend I look at?

what is causing it to fold. Hydrophobic/hydrophilic interactions. dipole dipole, polarity, h-bonding etc.
This will help you answer application questions like "what happens when you raise the temperature?" ph? mutations in amino acids?
if you understand what interactions take place and where you can answer these.
