Poor. Prosth is one of those specialties you do only because you love it. there is absolutely no financial advantage over general dentistry. Most either end up teaching or practicing as GPs anyway. At least that's what I understand.
i would disagree about this - i know of several prosthodontists doing very well. one of them is known for the best removeable pros in town, and he charges a lot! like $3K/set of dentures
the other is in a group practice w/a GP and a periodontist, the three of them are known as a one stop shop for great implants
another one i know has a very successful esthetics practice
you make your own opportunities, if you love pros do it!
It means that they can't get U.S. grads to accept the positions. One of the 3rd yr prosth residents at my school was saying the other day that sometimes there aren't even enough applicants to fill the program's open positions. 😱
From what I understand foreign grads sometimes accept these positions that nobody wants as a way to gain licensure without repeating two or three years of dental school and incurring all the debt associated with international programs. Depends on the state, though.
