Do you all provide a CV prior to knowing Job specifics? I find this absurd. I have had some recruiters tell me that they cannot tell me who the employer is or that I need to provide a CV prior to them sending me opportunities. I not only find this unprofessional but a waste of my time and essentially I delete the message and make it a point to not deal with such a recruiter in the future. Is this norm anywhere? Why would anyone provide a CV first and then be provided with opportunities or With a practice’s info? This is not Priceline!

no...usually they will give you the info about the job and if you wish to be presented to the employer, then they will have you give them a CV.
you do NOT want to give them that info without knowing the details.

That’s exactly what I think! Why the heck would you give a recruiter your CV and then have them give you the info? I just had to tell a recruiter who has the audacity to write me and tells me she needs my CV AND a sheet filled out about my preferences before she can help me and start finding me a job and sending me stuff. I was like yeah I don’t think so - I don’t provide my CV unless I know specifics. What is wrong w these people? It’s like they lack total common sense and hey are dealing w physicians!!! I almost want to start my own recruiting firm w people who have a clue!

Because lots of physicians will just hand over their CV. Then the recruiter will plaster it all over.

Do NOT put your cell phone number or any other personal information on a CV you give a recruiter. Do not give them your cell phone number -- or, get a burner phone and use that, then dump it at the end of the job hunt.

Best advice I have ever seen on SDN.

Read this absurd email from the below recruiter after her asking me if I was interested in having her send me job opportunities:

"Hello Dr. X,

Thank you for your response. Once I receive your CV, completed info sheet (see attachment) and confirm your interest, then I will call you at the times/days you listed on your info form to discuss more details about the opportunities I will send you.

This process is a joint effort between us both in finding you new employment. I will need all the info I requested to start your process.

I look forward to your response. Thank you

Kind Regards,

Ridiculous. I remember a recruiter that got all offended when I asked about compensation. She yelled at me and went on a rant about how things don't work that way.

I told her to get lost. I won't waste my time with a disrespectful person that makes her money if I sign. Why would I entertain a prospective employer that is not offering me close to what I think I'm worth?

That recruiter lost two contracts (my wife and I). I also told her agency that she yells at the physicians she is trying to recruit 😉

I don’t think some recruiters understand that they are dealing with Doctors so it works which ever way he physician wants. Recruiters are a dime a dozen and half of them don’t even understand basics. So infuriating. I’m going to keep a list of the ridiculous ones like above and potentially post them so others are warned in the future

If a recruiter works for a recruiting company (rather than a hospital system), they probably work on commission. They want to avoid people going around them and contacting the group directly so they can maintain their commission. I personally wouldn't work with a recruiter like that as most jobs can be found though other means.
