PRP expiration?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I had a rep tell me about getting PRP in his scalp for hair loss. He said they drew his blood, made the PRP, injected him, then took the extra and stored it in a fridge for next time. Scary.

why would there be any delay of using it?

didnt you just draw their blood and spin it down and have them sitting in your waiting room or exam room?
There are other patients that need to be seen while the PRP is processing though

My workflow for PRP is to draw blood and start processing and then immediately take the patient back and get access. It takes long enough to get the patient to the procedure room, prep, get access that the PRP is ready to use just as I am ready to inject it.

hmm....

maybe longer than we all expect:

Conclusion: Although platelet integrity and PDGF-BB fell over time, the intermittently agitated non-oxygen permeable container appeared to retain better platelet integrity and function, and PDGF-BB release, than other storage conditions, with potential for clinical use for 5-8 days.

equine:

6 hours
Conclusions: L-PRP ad modum E-PET and P-PRP ad modum ACP® are applicable over at least a six hours time span at room temperature without loss of growth factor content.

About 130 and 250 g successive speed centrifugations further concentrated platelets while preserving their bioactivity during 6 h (after that, platelet functions were significantly altered). In these conditions, we obtained a highly concentrated pure PRP product (with a low leukocyte count) suitable to study platelet properties. To avoid the loss of efficacy, we recommend injecting PRP under 3 h after preparation.
