When should I start writing this PS. I am applying in June, but I figure I should have it finished before asking for LOR? Also, what are things you wish you would have done before the application opens up in June? The ones that comes to mind is having all LOR, have PS done, and having official transcripts from all colleges (is this a hard copy or how does this work)?

I wrote my personal statement way before June so that I could pass it on to my recommenders to help them with the LOR's. I also gave them my CV. Something I learned: Assume your recommenders will wait til the last minute to submit your letter, so be strict with your deadline. I gave my recommenders a 2-month heads-up at the start of summer, assuming they'd be done within a month, and it delayed my app a little. It probably didn't matter too much in the end, because my app was submitted the first week of June, I took my DAT in July so it was received mid- August, and my LOR were up the first week of August. The way some schools' adcoms work, they'll start reviewing your app before it's even fully complete (like my app!) so as long as you get absolutely everything done before September, you're good.

Having your LOR, a thorough CV (helps your recommender AND helps you fill out EC's on AADSAS if you include a brief description and hours performed), and your DAT before June is ideal but not necessary.

As for the transcripts, I had my undergrad schools send them directly to AADSAS. You'll have to wait until AADSAS is open to send transcripts because your transcripts need to be accompanied with a special paper (called the "Transcript Request Form") with your AADSAS info on it. Plus, AADSAS doesn't accept transcripts before June 1st. BTW, all transcripts must be directly from the registrar's office, cannot be marked “Issued to Student” or “Student Copy", and must have the registrar's seal and/or signature.

Nonetheless, if I were you, I'd request 1 copy of all of your undergrad transcripts right now for yourself because you can use it to fill out your AADSAS transcript (needs to 100% word-for-word match what's on your school transcripts).

Glad I could help! I know it can kinda feel like you’re fumbling around in the dark before the application even opens because the specifics aren’t really discussed much!
