This is an allopathic school question, but hear me out...I am almost exclusively applying to DO schools except for 1 in-state MD school. I didn't want to venture over to the pre-allo boards because those people scare me over there and I like talking to you guys and gals more 😉. I am guessing that my PS will be a little bit different for DO schools compared to the one MD school. Is it alright for me to base my (AMCAS) PS for my in-state MD school on why I want to go to THAT school rather than a generic PS? The school is in the city I live in now so I can talk about wanting to stay close to home and practice in this city someday (which is actually true). To me, it would show my dedication for this one school. Would this scenario be a good idea or not?

I wouldn't blatantly write their school but perhaps talk about characteristics/goals that will beg the question. "That is the needs of this town". I would hold off on selling yourself to the school for secondary. That way the application builds. You will most likely just be restating things if you jump out and say everything in your ps. I personally left holes/things that need to be explained in my ps so that I had something to talk about in secondaries and interviews

I'm a med student, not an adcom. But if I read a school-specific statement, I think I'd wonder more about why you're NOT applying to a lot of schools than why you're so dedicated to my school.

Not a good idea. You're DO and MD PS's shouldn't be very different because it is asking the same question. Mine was only slightly different because the MD has ~1000 more characters so I was able to elaborate a bit more on topics.

The secondaries are where you get specific on the school, especially the "why do you want to attend this school?" question.

Thank you everybody for the replies. It will be much easier just having 1 PS rather than trying to do 2 of them.
