I received my first copy of DVM360 (Oct 2008) today (a birthday subscription from my parents) and was startled to find two articles that speak almost directly to my personal interests in vet medicine (zoonotic disease & public health) which I wrote about in my PS. I was suprised more because two of the statements sound very similar to what I wrote in my PS, and in one of my supplemental applications (in response to what I think the most critical issue facing veterinary medicine is.)
I wrote about my interests because I enjoy the combination of vet med and research, particularly on disease spread (and am applying only to joint DVM/PhD programs) but now I am concerned it may look like I was projecting what I think schools might want....or worse, referencing an article like this to write my PS. Obviously, everything is submitted....anyone think that might cross minds? I did explain the origen of my interest in this field (experiencing hoof/mouth disease in the UK, and working with vets and researchers to try to avoid spread into zoo populations.)
Well, back to the PhD program apps.
