I am working on my ps and I was wondering, is the 3000 word count
1)3000 words!
2)3000 characters with spaces
3) 3000 characters without spaces
AACOMAS is offline until they get the new app up May 15.

Last year it was about 2800 characters including spaces, and hard returns counted as two characters. However, it only let me put in about 2750 characters before it gave me errors upon submission.

It's not much. Good luck editing.

Yup, it's 3,000 including spaces and punctuation. It really is limiting, especially if you have something pertinent to share that is kind of lengthy. However, you'll have a chance to expand on what's there in your secondaries, which don't really have a limit(but don't write a novel!). Start working on it now; write two separate essays. A shorty for AACOMAS, and if you start looking online you can anticipate the kinds of questions that you'll encounter on the secondaries, such as:

-Why are you applying DO?
-Why are you wanting to study medicine?
-What qualities do you feel you bring to xxxCOM?
-Why should we offer you a seat at xxxCOM?

etc.

You might consider contacting some of the schools you are applying to for their secondary essay prompts. I got these from the schools I was most interested in so I could design my essays to have little overlap and tell the most about myself (you don't want to focus on something in your primary and then have your secondary ask specifically about what you've already written).

The previous people got it right. Its 3000 characters including spaces. The way the essay appears on the accomas application is as one big essay so you dont have to really worry about paragraphs. I know it stinks but thats just the way it is. Also, if you use the search function on here, you can find almost all the secondary essay prompts. Hope this helps.

Yeah it does suck but thats the way all of the essays are for AACOMAS. So it is ok. I put paragraphs in my essay but when I sent it in, it was just one big paragraph. Just giving you a heads up. Hope it helps. Oh, and kick ass on the personal statement. I think it really helped me to gain an acceptance to my top choice school.
