I work for a big name chain of pharmacies and, as we all know, we are now required to obtain and input information from the customers identification. Today, a customer showed up asking for Aleve-D, no problem. I asked for an ID and was handed an identification card from Mexico. I tried my best to satisfy the customers desire to purchase the item by attempting to enter the information off of the card, but it did not have an identification number whatsoever so I couldn't enter much aside from the city and state. I asked for a different form of identification with an identification number of some sort but was given a rude response. I then explained why I couldn't sell the item to the customer and was given another curt response (ie. they take this all over downtown, why can't you? etc.). I'm assuming they construed my refusal to sell as racism. Does anyone know what we are supposed to do in these types of situations where identification exists, but doesn't include sufficient information? On the one hand, I don't want to break the law. On the other hand, I don't want to set up my employer for a potential lawsuit.....
