Did anyone else think the psch GRE subject test today was much harder than any of the practice tests from Kaplan, RES, or even GRE.org?!?!?!? I was rocking all the practice tests but I thought today's test had some really obscure material and some really poorly worded questions! I am totally freaked out. I am the only one?

I did. 205 questions seemed a bit long, imo. There was some stuff I didn't know (largely because I haven't yet taken a formal cognition class), but it didn't seem *too* bad. I hope I did well--I can never predict my performance on these things at all.

205 is actually shorter than usual, I think--the practice test had 215 IIRC.

I was expecting it to have 215; I turned to the page with the 200's on it and was pleasantly surprised when the booklet ended!

No idea. Probably like an hour and then another 45 minutes to look over/change my answers. I was one of the first people out of there.

After just taking the General GRE less than a month ago, I was disappointed to take a paper-based standardized test. I don't like being able to change my answer and second-guess myself.

I found it MUCH harder than the practice tests/quizzes also. So no, you are not the only one. I ended up guessing on a lot more than I should have, so now I am wondering how that will affect my score 🙁 Oh well, only 6 weeks to find out....

If it helps, back when I took the subject test I finished so early the proctor looked at me, confused, and was like "Are you sure?"

I first took the Psych GRE in 2001. Back then, it seemed like it covered a lot of different areas of Psychology, but didn't go very deep into any given area. I remember thinking that it wasn't too bad, sort of like a shallow overview of the field. No sweat.

When I took in late 2007, the test seemed a lot harder. IIRC, there was a lot more in-depth focus on biopsychology and experimental methods. And I'm 95% sure that one of my last questions incorrectly defined the concept of cognitive dissonance. I still ended up doing really well (due to the test curve, I'm sure), but I walked out of there feeling rattled. I didn't even enjoy my celebratory White Castle lunch. 🙁

BTW the girl taking the test next to me (who smelled like she had just toked up before she walked in...seriously) finished the test in 35 minutes flat. Maybe there was a method to her madness.

Wait, you didn't happen to get high before you took the test and sit next to a guy who was talking about White Castle, did you? 😀

I took the Psych GRE in April. I felt the exact same way. I hadn't taken courses in biopsych and a few others but had done quite a bit to review. My score was definitely lower than the scores I was getting on the practice tests from Kaplan Princeton Review and the GRE practice book. However, it ended up being sufficient (definitely could've been higher) so I decided not to retake it. Good luck!

Haha  That is how I typically test, but I skipped a bunch of questions and then went back and stared for awhile and was thinking, really?!
