question about the psych shelf. i've heard that we need to know dsm-iv pretty well. what does this mean? do i need to know the exact times and the exact sx from dsm? some of them dsm criteria are tough to memorize.
stuff like schizophreniform vs schizophrenia isn't a big deal but other stuff? thanks.

NO, dont worry about studying the DSM. read first aid for psych and supplement that with case files or with a question book.

trust me, i went through first aid psych 3 times during the rotation and felt MORE than prepared for the shelf. its nice and thin and is a very easy read.

FA will include the most important DSM criteria in there for you plus it will give you examples of how patients would present, etc... i liked it a lot - probably the best first aid for a clerkship ive seen.
