Hey folks, any warm-hearted souls out there willing to help a gal out? What exactly is emphasized on the psych shelf? Any tips on which subjects should and should not be emphasized in my preprations??
Know how to diagnose disorders, MDD is a big one, Bipolar, schizo, etc. Psychopharm and side effects are huge. Make sure to rule out organic causes like tumors, SIADH, etc.
First Aid for Psych is great along with the green Clinical Psychiatry pocketbook.
Don't worry about names of famous people and what they did.
I agree with the above poster. I was able to get through First Aid for psych twice and did all the Appleton and Lange questions and I did well on the exam.
did a&l once (only the pertinent chaps, only one Q on psychotherapy). read a little. it is a pretty easy and straightforward shelf compared to the others i felt. keep it simple stupid really applies to this test.
