Does anyone know the pros and cons of practicing psychiatry in Las Vegas? I heard psychiatrists have huge malpractice issues in Las Vegas and therefore, do not make enough money. I appreciate the time.

They make up for it at the Texas Hold' em tables because of their innate ability to read minds....

Seriously, they can throw you out if they find out you're a psychiatrist. :meanie:

Indeed... they might think you are connected to the Psychiatric Telepathic Network, which will enable you to mentally get tips about your opponent's cards.

👍You guys are funny. If anyone does know anything about the malpractice issues in Vegas, I would appreciate good wisdom. Anyway, thanks for the humor.

I'm a med student in Vegas. Going into psych.
I haven't heard a thing about malpractice problems for psychiatrists. Nevada generally has malpractice issues, but legislation is supposedly in the works to change that. It's tougher for OB/GYN docs and other high risk fields.

My psych attendings talk more about how Las Vegas is opportunity central for psychiatrists. There simply are not enough to fill the demand. And this is most likely due to huge population growth and not because of malpractice.

That's the idea I'm getting from the psychiatrists here.

by the way, anybody hoping to match in psych in Vegas?

👍I'm coming down to TOURO in Henderson. That is great news. I want to stay in Las Vegas if I can. If you have any other inside information, I would love to hear it. Thanks a ton.

Or the fact that 1 in 30 homes in Nevada are in foreclosure?

Ok, I'll stop piling on and say that I ranked both NV programs in the middle of my list.

Word on the street is that the opportunities and earning potential in the Las Vegas area outweighs the malpractice issues. Just make sure you have good coverage.

LV is a top 2 choice for me.
