I am at UCLA and I keep hearing things about how ridiculously hard physci is and how I should change my major from physci to psychobio because my gpa will suffer (it is already not that high).
a lot of people told me that physci is not what you expect in terms of the classes; they're not anatomy but really hard instead.
I heard psychobio is incredibly easy (but I don't think that most of the courses qualify as BCPM because they fall under Psych)

Does anyone have any input on either of these majors and what the best course of action should be if my gpa isn't already brilliant?
Thanks

If getting into med school is your #1 career goal, then protecting your GPA is your highest priority. Choose the major where you'll get the best grades. You can always use elective time to take more upper-level hard science to raise your BCPM GPA.

definitely go psychobio... i was physci because i enjoyed the subject a lot (i wasn't pre-med at the time) but if i really did want to (and knew how to) play the game back then i would definitely pick psychobio.

Is phy sci really that crazy? I heard it's a bunch of memorization, what would you say is the most ridiculously hard aspect of classes of this major?

Personally I wouldn't choose a major based on what looks better for med school or what will get a higher GPA. I think you should major in whatever you enjoy the most, even if it's theatre arts. I double-majored in art and architectural studies, so obviously hardly any of the courses I took for my majors counted towards my BCPM grade. But I really enjoyed undergrad because I enjoyed all of my courses.

I don't know what year you are, but the bulk of people will change career outlooks during their undergrad. I'm definitely one of them--I had wanted to be an architect at first. That's why I would major in whatever interests you the most--because if you end up deciding you won't want to be a physician, then you aren't stuck with a major you don't like and don't want to use.

And, if you do end up applying to medical school, I think they'll find you much more interesting if you majored in something that really interested you.

So do what makes you happy 🙂

yeah, that's what I'm confused about too. I mean I know it's hard, but is it really THAT hard in comparison to psychobio?

I graduated from UCLA as psychobio and also took phy sci classes. There is a difference in difficulty and study time. I found the phy sci classes more enjoyable than the psych classes, but required more time. Don't pick a major based on difficulty. Even if the major is hard, if you enjoy it you'll put in the time to master it. If phy sci really interests you and you can dedicate your time to get the A's, then do it. If you are really worried about your gpa and don't hate psych classes, then do psychobio. Psych classes are mostly reading and MC tests, some papers. Only psych 115 and 116 had biological relevance.
You also mentioned that your gpa isn't high. You should figure why and how to improve your study habits or approach. When you figure how to study efficiently, nothing is that hard, maybe theoretical math....

Reasons to stick with phy sci:
1) Phy Sci kids are academic G's
2) Creating a new username on SDN is a hassle.

from a midwesterner at a small school...what is phy sci short for?

Just switch to MIMG and you will be happy😀

I know you said you were struggling with your GPA, and so remember that most psychobio classes fall under psych, and so won't go under your BCPM GPA. If you want to raise that GPA, you're better off taking physci classes.
