I am applying for match next year and I was wondering which programs across the country are really psychologically oriented? which ones are open and encouraging to alternative modalities?

I'm trying to decide which programs i should do more research on and which ones to apply to. many of my interests (philosphy, mind and body connection, addiction, mood disorders, music, artistic expression , spirituality...etc) i feel can supplement eachother with healing in the field of psychiatry.

which programs are out there that have a more holistic, spiritual, psychological flavor to them? which ones ar eless biologically oriented?

please let me know. I have no idea of which programs are like this. i just saw the duke webpage and i really loved the impression i got. of course, that is just their website but they give off a very very open mindset to mental illness and mental health

- whoops, double post

Harvard - Cambridge Health Alliance
Columbia

More Biological (i.e., the opposite of what you asked for, but what other people might want):
Hopkins

Psychologically oriented!!! HMMMM Well that would be hard to find if you believe the posters on this forum.......... Good ? 😎

I"m sorry, what do you mean by that?

Check-out University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital.
UM's Dept. of Psychiatry has a CAM (Complimentary and Alternative Med Div) in addition to what is touted as a high degree of integration between Psychiatry and Psychology in the different services. The former Chairperson, Dr. Eisdorfer, was both a psychologist and a psychiatrist. Other Faculty members too, namely Dr. Ownby. The Psycho-oncology Service's Chief is both a psychiatrist and a priest.
Also, UM's Dept. of Psychology has two big researchers in spirituality and health: Dr. Antoni (psychologist) and Dr. Ironson (psychiatrist).
Peace. 🙂

Although it might not particularly address the holistic/spiritual flavor you are looking for, the psychiatry department at Brown has a very large percentage of research psychologists on faculty.
