I'm planning out my next semester's schedule, and I need to fill a social sciences requirement soon, or I won't have enough credits to graduate (I'm in a 3+4 program). My options are to take an anthropology or psychology course, and I honestly don't know which one I like more. They're both intro-level courses, but I know anthro is a smaller class than psych.

Can anyone who's taken one or both of these give me any tips as to which one I should take? Preferably before Sunday, that's when I register!

Why did you think psychology was better?

1. It was an easier class (although this is entirely dependent on whose teaching it), so it allowed me to just enjoy the material and not worry about exams.

2. Introductory anthro consists of two parts, the first of which deals with evolution of humans and the origins of art, tools, etc. The second part is a holistic analysis of a wide range of cultures. I found this to be more interesting than the first part, but not nearly as intellectually stimulating as psychology.

I'd take intro psych just because it's a prereq for some dental schools. Might as well cover that base now since you have the choice.

I'd vote anthropology. I love learning about evolutionary and cultural aspects of humans. If you are interested in evolution, then you may be interested in learning of early hominids. The class for me was super easy because it was interesting. But you should really take a class that you can relate to the most, that would make the course easier and more enjoyable.

Psychology is a blast. you learn ethics, research methods, and general behavior phenomena. It can be fun. Not hard to do well in an intro psycho course. Takes a little studying, but the material is simple, and the principles they teach are highly simplified.

I vote anthropology. Will help you understand cultures and why people are the way they are, broaden your perspective, and ultimately help you relate to your patients better. Look at the adea guide for which schools require psych. I'm pretty sure its only a few.

Take psych. Some schools require it. You never know if you might need it!

Took multiple courses in both subjects (ended up majoring in psych)....For your purposes look into the professors, a good one can take a dry subject matter and make it sorta interesting/meaningful to your life, also there is the issue of which course will likely lead to a good grade with least amount of resistance...

I took both and I would reccomend anthropology. Really makes your brain think about where we originated from.

I took a psychology class (psychology of gender), big mistake. Big fat mistake. The teacher was just a huge social justice warrior who would tell us how evil men were every day. And we learned all about "micro agressions", we learned how evil cisgender heterosexuals were... Luckily one of my best friends was in the class, and a good portion of the people in the back of the class thought it was as ridiculous as I thought it was.

Moral of the story: do a little digging and find out who the teachers are and what they teach - maybe that will help you make a decision.

I'm a psych major, I would say take anthropology personally.

Into psych is pretty alright, you learn some interesting information, not I feel like anthropology would be way more entertaining and contain knowledge that isn't as easy to obtain as intro psych.
