PsyD programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Questions about good PsyD programs come up pretty regularly. It's a truism but a lot really does depend on you (what you want to do with the degree, where you want to live, what populations you want to work with, how much money you're willing to spend, etc.)

Anyway, here are some suggestions to get you started. To the best of my knowledge, all the following have small classes, good funding, a lot of individual clinical supervision, good internship match rates, and good research training:

Indiana State
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Virginia Consortium

Rutgers GSAPP probably has the best rep of any PsyD program but not all their students get funded, class sizes are slightly larger (16) and everyone and her dog applies there.

Xavier is supposed to be good, but I don't know too much about it. Perhaps someone else can elaborate.

My overall impression of Loyola MD is also favorable, but i think it (and Xavier?) are a bit more expensive than the others.

There are probably others as well. Request information from a bunch of schools, closely examine the APA Graduate Study Guide, and make sure you get all the details on expenses and funding. It takes a lot of time but I think it's worth it. Best of luck.

Can anyone suggest some PsyD programs, east or mid-west area

I am starting this fall at Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. I never see much mention of it, but it was my top choice for many reasons. It is a very small school, but it is located in Boston, which is a mecca for healthcare training. My favorite thing about the program is that you begin a field placement day one and you continue to hold placements/internships throughout the four years. It is a very integrative program and the graduates that I have spoken to do well. Last year all the students who applied to APA internships got in (13 students I think) so the school is well respected. You can check it out for yourself- www.mspp.edu.

Good luck!
